I love avocados. I love them in guacamole, in sandwiches, pretty much anyways you slice or smash them, I love them. There is however, one exception I have found--in ice cream.
First, let me begin by saying I really wanted to like this ice cream. I've read rave reviews of how creamy and satisfying avocado ice cream is. The pictures I saw looked heavenly and i thoughts, hey, that looks like a nice, healthy idea.
So, I scoured the internet and found that most avocado ice creams are roughly the same. Milk, cream, avocado, some sugar. I found one recipe that seemed to be all the rage on the blogosphere and decided I would make it, add some toasted pistachios and feel oh so refined for making such a non conventional ice cream.
My attempts failed. I followed the instructions exactly and it looked just like the picture, so I am not willing to admit I am at fault for creating such an atrocious ice cream. I tried it, didn't love it, figured I needed to freeze it some more and then try it again. Four hours later, still couldn't stomach it.
After having others try it and having the same reaction as I, I decided to throw it away. Such a shame as I really wanted to love this ice cream and I wasted 2 perfectly nice avocados (do know how much avocados cost in NYC?!). Bottom line, it's over rated folks, keep moving, nothing to see here, save your avocados for guacamole or sandwiches or anything else but ice cream.
*Don't let this innocent picture deceive you! It's a trick!
